The launch of the iPhone in China was delayed due to its support for the “eSIM” card only. The new ultra-thin iPhone Air from Apple has not yet been available in China, which is one of Apple’s largest markets, but it seems the phone will be arriving in China soon.
When Apple unveiled the iPhone Air in September, they announced that it would be available for pre-order on Friday, September 12, as part of a wide global launch. However, the company later had to change its plans. Due to regulatory issues related to the design of the device, which supports only the electronic “eSIM” card without a slot for a physical SIM card, the launch of the iPhone Air in China was postponed indefinitely.
Now, according to a post by Apple’s CEO Tim Cook on the Chinese platform “Weibo,” Apple is nearly ready to launch the phone in China, according to a report from the tech news site “9to5Mac,” which was reviewed by Al Arabiya Business.
Pre-orders for the iPhone Air will start for users in mainland China on Friday, October 17, at 9:00 AM local time.
The shipping of iPhone Air devices to users in China is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 22.
It is still unknown how the Chinese market will react to a phone that supports only the “eSIM.” Traditional SIM cards are more common there compared to many other parts of the world.
