University of Sharjah Fosters Blockchain Innovation, Talent Development

The University of Sharjah (UoS) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Binance Academy, the educational arm of Binance — a global leader in blockchain ecosystems and cryptocurrency infrastructure — to advance long-term collaboration in blockchain research, education, talent development, and innovation.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies at UoS, and Rachel Conlan, Chief Marketing Officer at Binance. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to empowering students and researchers with the tools, knowledge, and platforms needed to thrive in the fast-evolving blockchain and Web3 landscape.

As part of the collaboration, both parties will work jointly on a range of initiatives, including:

  • Development of specialised academic programmes
  • Launch of joint research projects
  • Hosting of capacity-building workshops and hackathons
  • Facilitation of internship placements for students
  • Support for startup incubation
  • Establishment of expert exchange and mentorship programmes driven by industry needs

Prof. Bettayeb noted, “This partnership reinforces the University of Sharjah’s commitment to equipping its students and faculty with cutting-edge skills and practical insights. Collaborating with Binance integrates global blockchain expertise into our academic and innovation ecosystem, preparing graduates to lead the future of this dynamic sector.”

From Binance’s side, Rachel Conlan stated, “Through this collaboration, we aim to contribute to the UAE’s vision for digital transformation by investing in local talent, research, and education. With a global community exceeding 280 million users, Binance is proud to bring world-class knowledge to support the UAE’s growth in the Web3 and blockchain arenas.”

This MoU forms part of UoS’s wider strategy to position Sharjah as a regional hub for advanced technologies, digital transformation, and sustainable innovation. It highlights the essential role of academic-industry partnerships in nurturing future-ready talent and supporting the national tech ecosystem.
